Dear brothers and sisters,

I would like to greet you on the occasion of the upcoming feastdays of our Lord’s Transfiguration, the beginning of the Dormition fast (from August 14th till August 28th, according to the Julian calendar; from August 1st to August 15th, according to the Gregorian calendar) and The Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos.

I wish you all God's help during your fast. I want to remind you that this is a strict fast, i.e., in addition to intensifying our prayer, we abstain from the following foods: meat, dairy, eggs, fish.

As you know, I returned from my trip to Ukraine, where, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, I officially represented the Orthodox Church in America at the festivities timed to the name day of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry.

During my trip, I was accompanied by the choir director of our church, Reader Serge Liberovsky. We had an opportunity to pray not only during the sacramental liturgy on the day of the Ven. Onuphrius the Great, which was attended by about 100 bishops and more than 100 priests. We also worshiped before the incorrupt relics of the Reverend Fathers of the Kiev Caves and visited many holy places of Kiev Rus.

On the second week of the trip I had an opportunity to spend time with my parents, relax, breathe fresh Carpathian air, and enjoy the beautiful summer weather of Ukraine.

Upon our return, we had the honor to open the first exhibit of our parish museum and welcome the descendants of the family of the Golitsyn princes: Archbishop Alexander and Ekaterina Golitsyn.

From July 22nd till July 27th I will represent our parish at the All-American Council of the Orthodox Church in America in St. Louis. I will provide a report on what happens during the week of the All-American Council in the next Parish Leaflet.

I also want to share more good news: 3 more analogia ordered by our parish with the donated funds of parishioners were delivered, and in the near future we will see them in our cathedral.

There will be many church holidays in August. I ask you to join our celebrations and strengthen our joy with your prayers during the festive Divine Services.

In August we also begin preparation for September and the new school year in Saturday and Sunday parish schools, and we will prepare for new projects.

Please follow the events on our cathedral website and our Facebook page. If you have any suggestions or wish to help us with our upcoming projects, please send an e-mail to

Last but not least: As you all know, in the middle of June I got sick, as a result I had to undergo extensive examination and at the moment I am undergoing a course of treatment. By my doctors’ advice and in coordination with the Parish Council, I have to change my schedule a little. My mobile phone remains public, but I strongly ask you to use this number only in extreme cases. For all current issues, call the church office at 323-661-7000 or leave a message on the answering machine.

Monday - I will take my day off, except for those days when the great holidays are on Monday.

Tuesday - I will be available from 10 am till 1 pm, and from 3 pm till 5 pm in my office.

Wednesday - I will visit parishioners and perform offsite worship services.

Thursday - I will be available from 10 am till 1pm in the priest’s office. Starting at 2 pm I will also have offsite meetings.

Friday - I will dedicate to preparation for Sunday services, sermons and other administrative and parish activities.

Saturday and Sunday are the days of regular Divine Services.

I am very grateful to you for your prayers, support and understanding.

   Christ save us all!

 Archpriest Nazari Polataiko
