Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

The Nativity Fast came to an end, and by the grace of God we celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ - Christ is Born!

December was busy with parish events. In addition to multiple divine services, we successfully held our Christmas bazaar, a bake sale, a lecture by Dr. Vladimir Morosan, and the third concert of the choir Camerata Rus.

I want to thank everyone who participated in these events and helped our parish make them successful.

On December 8th and 11th, scenes for a feature film, “Icon,” were filmed in our church. We hope that in the near future the film will be released, and our parishioners will be able to watch it together.

I would also like to thank our Sisterhood and all the volunteers for their efforts in preparing the church for the Nativity celebration.

As has become a tradition of our parish, the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Theophany and other great feasts in our church are celebrated according to both the Gregorian and Julian calendars. Please share this information with all interested people.

In the Theophany period, we traditionally bless our homes with holy water. With this blessing of houses and apartments, our holy church helps us to sanctify our whole life and bring blessing to every Christian home and parish, and the entire universe is washed and cleansed in the very baptism of Christ.  After the annual baptism celebration the Lord teaches us to consecrate and bless ourselves, our place of residence, work and all the fruits of our undertakings and labors.

In our situation in the United States, especially in the city of Los Angeles with its population of millions, where parishioners live several miles from the church, it is important to schedule an appointment with a priest to bless your house. In order to invite me to bless your home, as usual, I ask you to leave a request in the candle stand, or fill out the attached coupon to set a time when I can come and bless your house. Although sometimes at this time of the year my schedule is very busy, I promise you that I will plan my visits so that I can also have a cup of tea with you and discuss spiritual issues that interest you.

   God bless you!
