According to custom, our ruling Archpastor, His Eminence Archbishop Benjamin, blessed us with his visit to celebrate the feast day of our cathedral Holy Virgin Mary "Rescuer of the Perishing," which takes place every year on the Sunday closest to this holiday. Vladyka arrived in our temple on Saturday before the beginning of the all-night vigil. Many parishioners were already waiting for the arrival of our spiritual father, praying in the temple.

Other priests also came to celebrate our parish feast day: a friend of our parish - the rector of St. Clement’s Church in Moscow, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin and the former rector of our cathedral, Archpriest Nicolas Boldireff.

On Sunday morning, Vladyka was greeted by the children of our parish, dressed in traditional garments, dispersing rose-petals before him. At the entrance to the Temple, Vladyka was greeted by the newly elected Starosta/Warden, Mrs. Alla Bobrov, and the current rector, Archpriest Nazari Polataiko. On this day the church was full of prayers and people: our regular parishioners, and guests from other neighboring churches.

Among those praying with us were UCLA students, who were introduced to our Orthodox faith and its centuries-old tradition by Professor Ronald Vroon. Archbishop Benjamin in his profound sermon explained the meaning of the Christian endeavour and wished us a blessed journey of Great Lent.

During the Liturgy, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, Archpriest Nicolas Boldireff and Protodeacon Arkady prayed with Vladyka. After Liturgy, at the end of the procession, Father Arkady proclaimed "Many years" to Vladyka, and Fr. Nazari thanked Vladyka for his pastoral care and fatherly love. The celebration continued in the Parish Hall, where festive tables were laid and a delicious dinner was served. During the dinner, the parishioners of our cathedral, Ekaterina Solovskaya, Elena Lee and Lee Ashby, presented an impressive program of classical music to the parishioners.

The holiday was a success and we look forward to Vladyka’s next visit on Palm Sunday.
